  • Anchorage Weavers & Spinners Guild
    AWSG Website
    The Anchorage Weavers and Spinners Guild is a non-profit organization dedicated to tile encouragement of the fiber arts in Alaska. The guild seeks to promote the exhibition of fiber arts and to inform its members and the public through lectures, workshops and craft demonstrations.
    They hold regular monthly meetings from September through May, often featuring a guest speaker. Members are encouraged to bring projects they are working on to share with the group. Meetings, which are open to the public, are usually held at 10:00 a.m. the second Saturday of the month at the Anchorage Museum of History and Art.
    Guild membership is open to anyone interested in weaving, spinning and other fiber arts. Two types of membership are available: Active $20/year, and subscribing $10/year. Active membership in the guild includes a monthly Newsletter, use of books, videos and equipment. Active members may place advertisements in the newsletter free of charge, serve on the board of directors and vote on Guild business. Subscribing members receive the newsletter.

  • Fairbanks Weavers' & Spinners' Guild

    The Fairbanks Weavers' and Spinners' Guild is a nonprofit educational organization formed to:
    Act as a conduit for information that contributes to the growth of knowledge in our heritage of weaving, spinning, textiles and fiber arts through meetings, fellowship and related activities.
    Sponsor and support educational events such as workshops, lectures, exhibits, demonstrations and the like that promote weaving, spinning, and fiber arts.
    Encourage improvement of our work through comparison and sharing of techniques. Promote interest in our weaving and spinning heritage among members of the community.
    Membership is open to anyone interested in weaving, spinning and the fiber arts. Annual dues are $15.00 per year, due in March. Membership and dues are prorated after August at $1.00 per month until March ($8.00). Those interested in joining the Guild may send name, address, phone number, email address and dues to:

    Guild meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month with social hour at 6:30pm and the program beginning at 7:15pm. The meeting will usually be held at the Weaving Studio (Lathrop Bldg., 516 2nd Ave., Room 219), our permanent location, unless indicated otherwise in the Guild newsletter.

  • Bay Area Basket Makers
    Meetings are generally held on the first Saturday of the month, from 11 - 3, except for July and August when they have informal "weave-in" gatherings.
    Meeting are held at several different locations in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area.
    The meetings consist of a business meeting, a potluck lunch, and a 2-hour "hands-on" session. Occasionally, they have an outside teacher, but usually one of the members teaches a technique or a specific basket.
    Meetings are open to members and to interested guests. They are an active and enthusiastic group and welcome interested visitors and new members!
    Yearly membership is $25. Newsletter "Twinings" is published 5 times/yr.
    BABM is a member guild in the Conference of Northern California Handweavers, and they participate in the weekend conference held annually in Northern California. BABM also works with area galleries to produce one or two group shows a year.

  • California Indian Basketweavers Association
    Membership is open to weavers and non weavers alike, as well as to non-Indian supporters of California Indian basket weaving. The organization publishes a quarterly newsletter and sponsors an annual Gathering where weavers demonstrate and sell their work, share techniques and stories, buy materials, and generally support each other. With each gathering, the network of weavers and their supporters grows, enabling the continuation of the art and its passage to the next generation.

  • Misti Washington Gourd & Basketry Guild
    Formed to preserve, promote and perpetuate the appreciation of gourd and basket art by providing a supportive, sharing and educational environment. Misti Washington was a well-known author, basket maker and a talented and generous teacher. She was one of the originators of natural basketry in Southern California and an inspiration for many of today's artisans and teachers.
    Meetings take place at the beautiful Quail Botanical Gardens in Encinitas, California, the first Sunday of each month from Noon to 3:30. (From I-5, exit east on Encinitas Blvd. Turn left onto Quail Gardens Dr.)
    During even numbered months, a potluck lunch precedes a business meeting. Members bring something to work on, a show-and-tell item and/or a problem piece to discuss. Slide presentations or demonstrations may also occur.
    The first Sunday of odd numbered months an informal session is held. A mini-workshop or educational lecture (generally at no charge) may take place. Those who do not wish to participate in these bring a project to work on. Everyone exchanges ideas and gets to know one another.
    Members represent all levels of interest in basket and gourd making. There are beginners, full- and part-time professionals, hobbyists and collectors. But all share a common fascination for these natural objects.
    The Guild organizes a biennial weekend event at Quail Botanical Gardens during the odd-numbered years in May. Over 30 gourd and basket workshops, along with displays and botanical tours, inspire hundreds of students and visitors and renew appreciation of this ancient art form.
    Membership includes a quarterly newsletter; access to Guild library books, magazines and slides; attendance at monthly meetings; participation in mini-workshops and lectures; and eligibility to register for special one- and two-day workshops conducted by nationally-known teachers held throughout the year.

  • The Los Angeles Basket Guild
    Membership is $20 for two years.
    They invite basket makers of all levels as well as those who just have an interest in learning more about basketry to become members.
    As a member you will receive the newsletter four times a year: April, July, October, and January.
    There are two Guild Meetings a year, April and October, which include mini-workshops, guest artists and other varied activities. The Guild sponsors field trips through out the year and an annual retreat. These are fun-filled, inspiring and instructional events!

  • Colorado Basketmakers Guild
    They meet once a month in Colorado Springs on the 3rd Friday of each month and generally do a different project each month. There is also a "study group" that meets once a month.
    They generally have one or two "special events" such as week-end weave-ins or a guest teacher or a dye party.
    They will send one complimentary newsletter (published quarterly) to any interested party.
    Dues are $10 per year and include the newsletter, meetings, and priority sign-up for special events.

    DE Hospice Festival of Trees ~ A community service is weaving, decorating and donating two large baskets for Christmas. These baskets are used by Hospice for their fundraising auction. Each member can help in weaving these baskets at one of our meetings.
    First Night ~ Members volunteer to teach a basket class to children 12 yrs and under from 3 PM - 6 PM on December 31st in Downtown Dover, DE.

  • Tampa Bay Basketmakers Guild

    This guild was organized in 1991 by a group of basketmakers from Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties. They now have over 60 members.
    Currently the guild rotates its meeting sites from St. John's Episcopal Church in Clearwater to Bayshore Presbyterian Apartments in Tampa on the third Saturday of the month from September through May.
    The newsletter, The Woven Word, is distributed quarterly.

    The River Country Basket Guild is a group of basket weavers from the Central Savannah River Area who get together weekly to share basketry tips and friendship.
    They meet each Tuesday evening at 7:00 in the parish hall of St. Alban's Episcopal Church at 2321 Lumpkin Road in Augusta, Georgia.
    Classes are offered for beginners and intermediate basket weavers.

  • Aloha Weavers Guild
    The president is Lisa Seng e-mail contact her for more information.
    They meet the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM at Caitlin Halsey Terrace, Honolulu Hawaii.
    Dues include a monthly newsletter.
    They try to work on a new basket each month. The material list appears in the newsletter along with the basket being worked on.
    The guild is working on implementing a periodic free weave/pot luck maybe every 3 months at local parks and beaches. And maybe a day when they will open a class to children to teach them to make an Easter basket of their own.
    They are not a teaching guild per se. That is, they would like the members to have a basic knowledge of weaving when they join as the guild does not have the resources at this time or teachers that can do that. But all the members are more then happy to share their experience by offering their knowledge when they weave baskets at the meetings.
