FAQ's about Ordering Supplies
Customer Number
  • Q: What is my customer number and what does it mean?
A: Please look on the upper right hand corner of your invoice/receipt. Your customer number will be printed right below the invoice number.
The customer number is made from three things: the first 3 digits of your last name, the last 4 digits of your HOME telephone number and your UPS code.
If you move or change your name, please let us know so that we may change your customer number and remain current.
We use this customer number to find you quickly in our files. If there is ever a problem with an order, we need your customer number to find you and the order information.

Declined Charge
  • Q: What happens is my credit card is declined?
A: Credit card orders, which are declined, will be held, retried each day and shipped upon approval. We will contact you via e-mail for an alternate payment method. Please be sure to check your trash/spam folders in your e-mail program for our e-mail.
There are many reasons why a card is declined, the wrong expiration date can produce a decline result. Please type very carefully when entering the charge numbers and double check the information before hitting submit.
We do not know why the card is declined, you must call your credit card company for answers.
If we do not hear from you (we will make several attemps) and do not receive payment within 30 days, the order will be canceled.

Discounts
  • Q: How can I get a cheaper price on your products?
A: We offer quantity discounts on almost every item that we sell.
We are sorry to say that we are suspending our quantity discounts for reeds and pre-woven cane until further notice. At this time we are not always able to get the materials that we have ordered. Hopefully things will return to normal soon.

For specific discounts for items, please see the front of the print catalog or view the product page of the item you are interested in, in the on-line catalog. The discounts will show in dollar amounts below the name and "Quantity Box" of the item.
Remember to check the Monthly Sale items for more discounted items.
We are not a wholesale company, but if you compare our prices with companies that are"wholesale", you will often find our normal prices are lower.

Environmental Footprint
  • Q: What is your Environmental Footprint?
A: We try to keep it as small as possible.
  • Many times, your orders will be packed in a clean cardboard box that was used by someone else first. We collect shipping boxes from local sources like: Wanamakers General Store, local liquor stores, the local cardboard recyling container and friends and family.
  • The packing materials that protect your items are also gathered from local sources or we use shredded paper in clean, reused plastic bags or crumpled paper.
  • We save and collect clean plastic and paper shopping bags from our friends and family to use for your store purchases.
  • We collect paper from friends and family that have a blank side and this is what we use to take your orders when you call us. We also use this scrap paper to print out our copies of your online orders and invoices.
  • Bill and Donna can walk to work.
  • If you enter the store during business hours and some of the store lights are off, this is because we are trying to conserve energy. We may also be trying to keep the heat down in the summer time so we do not have to run the air conditioner as much on warm days.
  • We recycle as much plastic, glass, carboard, etc. as we can.
  • We reuse as many materials as we possibly can.
  • We compost our reed scraps.
  • We remove the flexible plastic ties that hold multiple coils of reed and cane together and reuse them to tie prewoven cane after it has been cut for an order, wrap small bundles of seagrass, tie handles together, etc.

    How Long to Receive An Order
    • Q: How soon will you ship my order and when can I expect to receive it?
    A: Orders received by noon are usually shipped the same day.
    Mondays can be an exception. We process orders in the order that we receive them. Monday mornings are spent packing the orders that came in online over the weekend. Please call right after we open on a Monday if you wish your order to be shipped on Monday or place your order via the online catalog.
    Look at the UPS code in your customer number (R# or RS#). This will tell you the approximate number of days in transit. If the last number is a 2, then it generally takes 1-2 days to reach you. R5 would be 4-5 days, etc.
    If you desire faster shipping, please ask us for the UPS options in your area.
    You can also estimate UPS cost and delivery time, by going to the UPS Web site and enter Kempton PA 19529 as origin at top of form, your city, state and zip as destination. Bottom part of form not required. Then click "calculate" to see when to expect your package to arrive. We generally ship UPS Ground unless another service is requested (we cannot ship FedEx).

    On-line Orders
    • Q: What do I need to know before placing an on-line order?
    A: Please see our Shop from Home Page for detailed instructions on how our on-line catalog works.
    If you are a new customer, you must enter all your shipping information and your credit card information when you place the on-line order or call us to place an order. We can not process an order without payment (exceptions are government agencies and schools who use PO#'s). Please remember to include your PO Box # as well as a physical address for UPS & USPS deliveries.
    To pay by check or money order: complete your order and the checkout page. Print the order instead of submitting the order online. Remember to include the appropriate Shipping Charges or your order will be delayed until this is received.

    Payment
    • Q: How can I pay for my order?
    A: We accept: Mastercard, Visa, Discover (Novus), American Express, check, money order, travelers checks or cash.
    When paying by check or money order, the order must be accompanied by the payment. Please mail them together or your order will be held until we receive payment.
    When you visit our shop, you must bring your credit card along. Due to changes in credit card regulations, all credit card store sales must be processed by swiping the card through the terminal. We cannot manually punch in your credit card numbers in the store. As always, we accept cash. money orders, travelers checks and personal checks. But, if you want to pay by charge, please bring the card along on your visit.

    Please note: There is a $20.00 service charge for returned checks.

    Returns
    • Q: Do I have to call you before I return an item?
    A: Please see our Return Policy for complete information.
    If you receive an item that you did not order or an item is missing from your order, please call or e-mail us immediately so that we can take care of the problem for you.
    If an item is broken or unusable due to box damage, please keep the box and all packing materials and call us immediately so that we can notify UPS and get a replacement item or credit issued.

    Sales Tax
    • Q: How much do I include for sales tax?
    A: If you live in the state of Pennsylvania, you must include 6% on the merchandise and shipping total. If you live outside of PA, you do not pay sales tax.

    Shipping Carriers
    • Q: Which shipping carriers do you use?
    A: We ship UPS & USPS. (Please do not ask for FedEx, they will not pick up from us because we are located in a rural area.)
    If you do not specify a carrier we will always ship whichever is least expensive.
    With UPS rates rising on January 1st, we will be shipping more packages through the US mail.
    For those of you east of the Mississippi River, this may add an additional 1 - 2 days delivery time. Please be sure to tell us when you call if mail is OK or if you prefer UPS for faster delivery. When you order online, remember, you can change the shipping preference from “cheapest way, our choice” to UPS only (however, you MUST include a street address for UPS delivery).

    Shipping Charges
    • Q: How much does shipping cost?
    A: Shipping charges are based on the final weight of your package. We only charge you the exact amount that UPS (United Parcel Service) or USPS (United States Postal Service) charges us.
    These are the only two ways the average package is shipped. We can not ship Fed Ex, they consider us too rural and they will not pick up packages from us.
    If you place a phone, FAX, on-line or e-mail order, we must have a MC, Visa, American Express or Discover number at the time of the order. We will package your order, weigh it and add the shipping charges to the merchandise total and then charge the total to your credit card.
    If you prefer to pay by check or money order, you must mail us a copy of the order along with your payment. The shipping charges must be estimated with this formula:
    $9.50 minimum
    10% of merchandise total for orders totaling $95 - $200
    If your customer number includes an RS at the end, please include an extra $2.50.
    5% of merchandise total for orders totaling over $200
    Underpayment may delay delivery

    Overpayments will be a credit on file for your next order. Refund checks are allowed for amounts over $5.00. If a refund check is desired, please allow extra money and indicate this choice on the order blank.

    Please note: Depending upon the items ordered, a $100 order could weigh anywhere from under 10 pounds (for prewoven cane) to over 50 pounds (for seagrass or wooden bases).

    Helpful Hints to keep the cost of shipping down:
  • Provide us with your physical address for UPS delivery and, if you have one, your PO BOX # for US Mail deliveries. We will always ship whichever way will be cheaper for you unless you specify.
  • The more items you put on one order the better, versus several small orders. The first few pounds are the most expensive, if you place many small orders you will pay a lot more in shipping than if you place one large order..
  • Try to combine your order with a friend, you can split the shipping charges between the two of you.
  • Take advantage of our quantity discounts by ordering 50 or 100 pounds of mixed sizes of reed (must be of one type) with your friends or guild members.

    Toll Free Number
    • Q: What is your 1-800 number?
    A: At this time we do not have a toll free number. We accept orders via mail, FAX, phone, e-mail and secure online catalog.
    We are always trying to keep out costs down so that we can pass the merchandise savings on to you.

    Where Are You Located
    • Q: Where is Kempton? I can't find it on a map.
    A: Many maps do not include the town of Kempton. It is a very rural town consisting of one 4-way stop sign (just recently added), a feed mill, a hotel and several homes.
    Kempton is located roughly 1/2 way between Allentown and Reading, Pennsylvania.
    We are located several miles from the town of Kempton. Please see our Store Page for more information, shop hours, special holiday hours and directions.
