What is Kintsugi?
Kintsugi is an ancient Japanese art in which broken pottery is mended with glue and gold, honoring the journey of the pottery by highlighting the cracks rather than hiding them, a potent alternative to perfection. In Kintsugi the pottery is considered stronger and more valuable after the breakage and mending.
Kintsugi is a powerful art practice to explore layers of meaning in the pieces, the cracks, the symbolic glue which holds us together and the gold which illuminates.
What to expect?
In this guided, hands-on Kintsugi art experience each participant is invited to break and mend a piece of pottery. Perfection is not our goal, savoring and exploration of the process is. No experience necessary, just curiosity. All necessary supplies included. Each participant will take home their Kintsugi art piece.
Optional: Post hands-on art process, 1 Hour of Journaling, with guided reflection prompts.
Tools Needed: None, all materials provided by Facilitator Kristin. Just bring curiosity!
May be best to wear old clothes and bring a small box to protect your piece as it will still be curing.
